Frequently asked questions.
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized therapeutic approach that uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. EMDR supports the mind and body in releasing stored memories, reducing emotional intensity, and fostering a greater sense of calm and resilience.

Fees and Payment:
The investment for services varies depending on the type of support provided. Individual and relational therapy and coaching sessions range from $190–$225 per 50-minute hour. Please reach out to Abdi for more details about pricing, package options, or sliding-scale availability.
Abdi believes that transparency and trust are essential parts of the healing process. She operates on a fee-for-service basis, with payment due at the beginning of each session. While she does not accept insurance or participate in insurance panels, a superbill can be provided upon request for those seeking out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance provider.
To honor the integrity of each client’s journey, Abdi does not provide diagnostic services or codes for insurance billing purposes.
Accepted payment methods include credit or debit cards, as well as HSA/FSA cards for therapy sessions. Please note that HSA/FSA funds cannot be used for coaching services.
Counseling vs Coaching services?
Counseling focuses on healing and growth. It helps individuals and couples address past wounds, manage mental health concerns, and foster emotional and relational well-being. While counseling may incorporate elements of coaching, its primary goal is to support healing and deeper self-understanding.
Coaching, on the other hand, is future-focused and action-oriented. It’s designed to help clients clarify goals, build skills, overcome obstacles, and create meaningful change. While coaching may explore how past experiences influence the present, it typically does not involve therapeutic interventions or treatment for mental health issues.
As a cross-disciplinary provider, Abdi upholds the highest standards of ethics, integrity, transparency, and professional responsibility in both her therapy and coaching work. She ensures that every client receives the right level of care and support tailored to their unique goals and needs.
How long are sessions and how frequent will we meet?
Session length and frequency are tailored to meet each client’s unique needs and goals. Most counseling sessions are 50 minutes in length, though some situations may benefit from extended 80-minute sessions to allow for deeper work.
In most cases, weekly sessions are recommended at the start of therapy to support steady progress and address core issues more effectively. As treatment continues, the frequency of sessions may be adjusted based on your goals, pace, and growth.
Abdi collaborates closely with each client to determine the best structure for therapy—honoring your time, resources, and readiness at every step.
